Family Bits: Volume 1 is the first installment in a series of gaming books focused on Famicom (Japanese Nintendo) hardware and software. Unlike other gaming books on the market, the Family Bits series is unique as the material covered in the series primarily examines gaming products that were not authorized by Nintendo themselves.

This first volume of Family Bits focuses on gaming companies that had a presence in Taiwan. The companies are briefly described, but the primary focus is on the software that these companies developed. Each game examined has a page dedicated to it. Full-color game screenshots and cartridge scans can be found on these pages, along with gameplay information and cheat codes.

The back of the book examines a variety of old advertisements, which these companies used when marketing their games locally in Taiwan.

This is a comprehensive guide and includes virtually every original Famicom game developed in Taiwan. This book series is being released with assistance by the TV Game Foundation Formosa.
