This is an interesting demo of Peace, Love Trippy Club. PLTC began life as Hungry Ghost Night, but that Hungry Ghost Night was very different to the one that ultimately was released. Originally, the objective of the game was to collect all of the items on the screen, which would then allow the protagonist to move to the next area. The stage design felt limited and lackluster, and that's when the idea for Trippy Club came about.
In this early prototype version, the objective of the game is still to collect all of the objects (in this case drugs, i.e. pills, marijuana leaves, booze, etc) and then you'll warp to the next area. The first area of the club is more or less complete, though the enemy placement and music is different. From the second area onward, the stages are devoid of any enemies!
There are several stages in this prototype that didn't make it into the final game, namely some of the ones with the marijuana leaves. On a later build of the game, there started being issues of glitching in several of those stages, so they were sadly cut. You can see the title screen is also very different from the one that was used in the final release.
Only a few copies of this March demo of Peace, Love, Trippy Club were made. One was sent to a collector friend (local Taiwanese guy) of the develoepers; he never gave any feedback though he did buy the finished* release of the game, and then one of his local artist buddies wanted to display the game and its artwork in his art gallery exhibition for the quarter.
*Somehow there was a game-breaking glitch on what was supposed to be the final version of the game, which wasn't discovered until after it shipped. This prevented the player from being able to complete the game! So I then fixed the glitch and sent out new copies. Luckily, this was for a soft launch of the game locally, and only three people had purchased it on day 1.
Only a couple cartridges containing this March 2020 demo of Trippy Club exist, and there are likely even differences between each of these builds. This is a one-of-a-kind part of homebrew history.
